Youth Programs

Youth Programs

The Alexandria Chapter is dedicated to developing the next generation of conservationists, outdoor enthusiasts, and responsible sportsmen and sportswomen. Our youth programs provide safe, structured, and educational opportunities for young people to explore the outdoors and build lifelong skills.

Scouting Programs

The chapter proudly sponsors the following scouting organizations:

  • Scouts BSA Troop 142G — Boy Scout troop for youth ages 11-17
  • Cub Scout Pack 142 — Cub Scout pack for youth in kindergarten through 5th grade
  • Girl Scout Troop 44 — Girl Scout troop providing outdoor experiences for girls

These scouting programs make use of the chapter's 211-acre property for camping, hiking, conservation projects, and merit badge activities. Our partnership with BSA and Girl Scouts provides young people with mentorship and the opportunity to develop outdoor skills in a welcoming community environment.

Youth Shotgun Team

The chapter offers a youth shotgun team program for young shooters interested in trap and sporting clays. The program provides instruction, practice, and competitive opportunities under the supervision of experienced adult coaches.

Homeschooling Families

Homeschooling families are welcome to participate in chapter outdoor activities. The shotgun range and other facilities can be used for educational and recreational programming for homeschool groups. Contact Shotgun Committee Chair for details on scheduling and available programs.

Competition Opportunities

All chapter shooting competitions are free for youth under 18. Young shooters are encouraged to participate in NRL22, CMP, Steel Challenge, and other chapter matches with appropriate supervision and equipment. Visit the Competitions page for schedules and details.

Archery for Youth

New young archers can be mentored on the chapter's 8-lane archery range through the RSO guest voucher program. Experienced archers volunteer to introduce youth to the fundamentals of archery in a safe and supportive setting.

Hunter Education

Virginia requires Hunter Education certification for hunters ages 12-15. The chapter supports youth hunter education through our training programs. Visit the Education page for information on available courses and how to register through the VA DWR.

Girl Scouts partnership - youth outdoor education and conservation programs

We proudly partner with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and Girl Scouts for outdoor education, camping, and merit badge activities on our 211-acre property. Scouts work on conservation projects, learn outdoor skills, and earn advancement requirements with our chapter's support.
